It doesn’t take much to crack a MacBook screen. A MacBook Air 13” 2020 in East London had its display damaged after a paper clip was accidentally left on the keyboard when the lid was closed. As small as it was, it was enough to crack the LCD. A new display was fitted on-site, and the repair was completed in around 30 minutes. Hopefully, that’s the last accident this MacBook will have.

A MacBook Air 13” 2020 was sent from Nottingham. The LCD of it has to be replaced, and we are asked to check the keyboard as it would often stop working. When we opened the back cover, the problem was very obvious as there was water went into it. It ended up with LCD and controller board replacements to solve all problems.

Hard drives can fail without warning, and whether the data can be recovered often comes down to luck. This iMac 27" 2017 at Colindale with a failed hard drive. Fortunately, we were able to recover most of the customer's data. The customer then decided to upgrade the machine with a 2TB SSD, add an extra 16GB RAM, and update macOS all the way to Sequoia. Once completed, the iMac felt like a brand-new machine again.

A MacBook Pro 15" 2018 in West London. The owner had the battery replaced in Taiwan two years ago. Two years on, the battery has reached the end of its service life again and is due for another replacement.

Although batteries are generally expected to last around 300 cycles, there are always exceptions. A MacBook Pro 15” 2012 sent in from North Yorkshire had only 67 battery cycles, but unfortunately the battery had already failed and needed replacing.

In Dunstable, a MacBook Pro 13” 2018 had its screen fail for the second time. Same as last time, the screen was replaced on-site, and once again there was a thoughtful gift — truly appreciated 🙏.

If a MacBook shows no response even when it’s plugged in, the lucky cases are usually a dead battery; the unlucky ones are a failed logic board. In Reading, a MacBook Pro 13” 2017 turned out to be one of the unlucky one. The conclusion is an on-site logic board replacement, with a dust clean up while we were at it.

For a customer in Wadhurst, the AirPort card in their MacBook Pro 13” 2015 suddenly failed. We collected the MacBook on-site, replaced the AirPort card, and reinstalled the system, starting the new year with a fresh OS.

A water-damaged device isn’t necessarily beyond repair, it really comes down to luck. If you’re fortunate, even severe liquid damage can still be fixed. In North London, a MacBook Pro 13” M1 2020 suffered serious liquid damage, but it turned out to be one of the lucky ones. Although the repair took a little longer than expected, it was ultimately successfully repaired.

A MacBook Pro 2013 that can’t update its operating system isn’t the end of the road, there are possible solutions. If the SSD capacity is too small, it can be upgraded as well. In Reading, we upgraded a MacBook Pro 13” 2013 with a 1TB SSD and updated the OS to macOS Ventura. As a result, most apps are now usable again. Thanks to the owner for the cake 😁
